Positive Projects – Tak Tak Tak

A couple of weeks ago I went to visit my close friend Richard O’hanlon, who is part of the amazing team at Tak Tak Tak. To take a look around their midlands based worksite and see what there successful crowdfunding campaign had achieved so far.

A little about Tak Tak Tak:
Tak Tak Tak are a collective of architectural designers working to provide built projects to people and communities in need. Their first project completely crowd funded is to design and build a decent, low cost, flat-pack, timber frame building to support unaccompanied children living in the migrant camp in Calais, France, informally known as the ‘Jungle’. Intended as a one-off building…for now.

My Visit:
Firstly I was blown away and a little jealous by the facility and worksite they were using, it was a salvagers dream! Piles and stores of reclaimed wood, bricks and metal, some of which they had sourced themselves. Then in between the array of building materials were rustic and well used workshops for building, testing and team talks.

Secondly I was honestly impressed by the progress they had made, expecting to see the start of a project but presented with a near complete structure. The team had done an incredible job creating there first building utilising universal materials as well as reclaiming others.

Since visiting the team have finished the project and are planning to take the flat pack building down to Calais soon.
